Method 1 :

Right click the game's name in your Steam games list and click Properties in the drop down menu. Then click on the Local files tab and in that menu select Verify integrity of game files.

It will download any pieces that may have gone missing, so to speak, during your lengthy download. So be patient with it.

That should fix your issue.

MEthod 2:

My other idea is that you somehow didn't download it to a valid Steam directory, in which case all you have to do is cut (or copy)/paste the game into (Drive Letter):\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common. If that path doesn't exist, just create it.

Keep in mind your "program files" folder won't have the "(x86)" bit if you are running 32-bit Windows.

Solution 3 :

Another thing you can try is right clicking the game in Steam, go to Properties, and under the General tab, click on Set Launch Options. If there is anything inside the box that pops up, delete it out of there and click ok. Then try launching it.
